MYP Students

Being an MYP student at Gateway,

Gateway provides all freshmen and sophomores with the unique opportunity to participate in the Middle Years Program (MYP). One of MYP’s central themes is international-mindedness which compliments the diversity of Gateway’s student population. Gateway is fortunate enough to have students from all over the world including Somalia, Iraq, Russia, El Salvador, Liberia, Pakistan, and Democratic Republic of the Congo.

As a part of MYP, Gateway works in a partnership with our main feeder school of Aurora Hills which also provides MYP to its 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This allows us to collaborate in developing life-long learners.

The Gateway community believes that the curriculum MYP offers enables our students to think critically in order to become the next generation of leaders and lead our community to think globally and act locally. MYP encourages students to explore global challenges and integrates real world situations into all subject areas. The emphasis on critical thinking teaches our students to problem solve, analyze issues from multiple perspectives and apply knowledge across a variety of situations and experiences.

As part of this program, our students learn to think about depth of concepts and ideas as they are connected across their different classes. Our teachers use Key Concepts, Inquiry Questions, and Global Contexts in each of the eight subject areas. Moreover, there is a focus on an array of skill that enable our students to manage their own learning and academic success.

MYP includes the opportunity for our students to explore their individual interests and passions through the Personal Project during their sophomore year. The project allows students to choose a topic of personal significance to them to investigate and gain a deeper understanding.

MYP offers a different perspective on education and the way that students learn. Our students develop into independent learns while using their knowledge to collaborate with other students to expand their skills and abilities.

Sincerely,

Joseph Dillon

MYP Coordinator
